Friendly to your feet, friendly to the environment
Energy conservation isn’t just for big companies. At Old Friend Footwear, we believe every company should take steps to maximize its environmental impact on the Earth. Here are a few ways Old Friend Footwear is striving to have a smaller carbon footprint, if you’ll pardon the pun:
We spent tens of thousands of dollars retrofitting our entire warehouse and offices with energy efficient lights in a conjunction with our local energy company. The result? We reduced electrical consumption by 40% annually!
We reuse the same shipping carton from the factory instead of buying new cardboard to ship to customers. This saves in excess of 40 tons of cardboard a year, or the equivalent of 288 trees.
We make sure any cardboard we do purchase is made from a minimum of 60% recycled material.
We recycle all ink cartridges through a program that allows our local school district to recycle or refill them in return for gifts of much needed books.
And to reduce gasoline usage and carbon emissions, we switched all of our employees to a 4-day, 10-hour work week during this past summer. We estimate we prevented 1.1 metric tons of carbon dioxide from getting into the air during this three month time. |
